The Atlas II implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and the Atlas II HF cardiacresynchronisation therapy defibrillator(CRT-D) have recently received EuropeanCE Mark approval. Both devices incorporatethe newly released QuickOpt feature, whichprovides programmer-based optimisation inless than two minutes, allowing for efficientand frequent optimisation during routine devicefollow-up visits. In addition, the devicesoffer significantly enhanced telemetry speedfor faster communications, up to five timesfaster than predecessor devices. Another innovative feature is a patient notifier thatgently vibrates to alert patients of criticalchanges in device function so they know tocontact their physicians. Dr Christian Lampersberger, who implanted an Atlas II+ DR ICD at Landesklinikum St Polten, Austria, also believes the device will save significant time and spare patients from additional procedures. The DeFT Response feature is very beneficial in that it provides a way to non-invasively manage those who may experience high defibrillation thresholds, said Dr Lampersberger. Also, the QuickOpt optimisation feature is exciting new technology, as it will help to provide more tailored therapy for patients and save clinic time. Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
