Breast imaging

High-definition magnetic resonance technology

a new MR method for the early detection of breast malignancies

High-definition magnetic resonance technology. According to the findings of a study carried out at the University Hospital in Bonn, many physicians prefer magnetic resonance (MR) imaging as the method of choice for screening patients who are at risk of developing breast cancer. The technical demands on the MR systems, however, are high. To ensure a reliable diagnosis, physicians must assess the morphology, the speed and the uptake of the contrast agent in the tissue.Techniques that offer both a high spatial resolution and a high chronological resolution are required. Furthermore, current techniques also mostly rely on the subtraction method for eliminating the fat signal. This technique is strongly influenced by patient movements and can lead to misinterpretation of the results. High-definition magnetic resonance technology
