Inflatable bone tamp for spinal fracture reduction

Inflatable bone tamp for spinal fracture reduction. Balloon Kyphoplasty has demonstrated the ability to correct spinal deformity as measured by vertebral body height restoration and angular deformity correction (kyphosis). The KyphX Xpander inflatable bone tamp (IBT) is used with KyphX HV-R bone cement for treating vertebral compression fractures due to osteoporosis and cancer. Once inserted into the vertebral body, the IBT is inflated, creates a void and compacts the cancellous (spongy) bone for delivering bone cement. A low pre-inflation profile allows for accurate placement inside the vertebral body through a 4.2-mm cannula, and  radiopaque markers enhance visualisation of the balloon during positioning prior to inflation with contrast medium. An exit marker band on the IBT shaft indicates when the balloon is at the distal tip of the cannula.  The IBTs are available in three lengths (10 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm). A colour-coded band on the shaft indicates balloon length.
