Designed for both the convenience of the operator and the comfort of the patient, the Clascan system offers a wide variety of scanning positions and maximises the operator’s workflow while providing high image quality and optimum dose reduction. This latter is achieved by a layer of carbon fibre on the table top that minimises X-ray attenuation at the table. The X-ray tube, unusually, can be tilted by +/- 40 degrees for orthopaedic measurements. The tube/collimator assembly can also swing out on the horizontal by 90 degrees to accommodate emergency patients lying on a portable trolley without having to transfer the patient onto the normal scanning table. With the table in the vertical position the X-ray tube can be rotated by 180 degrees for wall bucky radiography for chest examinations. Orthopaedic and urological examinations are also possible using a 43 cm X 30 cm IP (Image Plate for computed radiography) located under the table top surface. The collimator is motorised for either multi-layered square field used for radiography (cassette Bucky) or single-layered round field (iris shutter) for fluoroscopy (image intensifier). With the collimator mounted on a versatile tube stand, a source-to-image distance of 100 to 150 cm can be achieved, which allows for chest radiography to be performed while the patient is on the table. Magnification of the image can also be achieved by moving in and changing the field-of-view. The digital image processing system features real-time automatic image optimisation that ensures the highest image quality.
