Treatment for vertebral Compression Fractures. If left untreated, vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), the most common osteoporotic fracture, can significantly increase morbidity and mortality over time. Balloon Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to stabilise both primary and secondary osteoporotic fractures of the vertebrae and to help correct the deformity of the vertebral body. This procedural approach consists of inserting a KyphX inflatable bone tamp into the fractured vertebral body, inflating the balloon to reduce the fracture, removing the balloon and filling the cavity with KyphX HV-R (High Viscosity Radio-paque), a bone cement that is specifically designed for Balloon Kyphoplasty procedures, to obtain fracture fixation. In addition to the correction of the vertebral deformity, other significant improvements in patients treated with the procedure have been reported, including significant pain reduction, as well as early remobilisation, improvement in the ability to perform activities of daily living and a low complication rate.
