Vascular Access Kit. Primarily for cardiology and radiology procedures, the stiffened dilator mini access kit, Merit S-MAK, has very good tip transitions to facilitate vascular access. Bleeding and trauma from entry into the vessel is minimised by the 21-gauge needle, and a short bevel facilitates access to the vessel. A stiffened dilator provides additional support during placement through scar tissue and/or difficult anatomy. Access to the vessel is achieved using a small 0.018-in. (0.46-mm) hoop protected guidewire for atraumatic advancement through the anatomy. Wires are available in three versions: stainless steel core with stainless steel coil tip, stainless steel core with platinum coil tip for increased visibility, and the flexible, kink-resistant Nitinol core with platinum coil tip.
